As Valentines Day approaches and I am trying to come up with something simple, romantic and of course UNFORGETTABLE to do for Josh. As all these ideas rush through my mind I keep finding myself thinking of the night Josh proposed. I mean how can that not be on my list of top favorite moments? So I thought I would share our proposal story for those of you that don't know. This is the entry we wrote for our wedding website back in 2010 (wow, that was a long time ago). So here you go, our proposal!
From Allie's Journal:
Tomorrow I am leaving for Africa...but tonight is the greatest night of my life and I am not sure that I want it to end. Josh and I decided to take a late night stroll through blue mountain to spend sometime together before I left on my long adventure. It was a beautiful night. The ground and trees were completely covered in snow and the moon lit the ground in a way that made everything glisten. Despite the beautiful scenery and wonderful company it was miserably cold. I certainly did not dress for the occasion just wearing jeans, a sweatshirt and a pair of vans. Not exactly snow clothes. As we walked towards the river and I continued to complain about freezing to death I realized Josh was no longer walking beside me. I quickly turned around and found him down on one knee holding a little velvet box. I instantly began to cry when he said, "Allie you are my best friend and the person who I want to be with until I am old. Will you spend the rest of your life with me? Allie, will you marry me?" I was in disbelief and asked him if was serious over and over again. I had wanted to marry Josh for so long that I just couldn't believe that it was truly happening. He asked me once again if I would marry him and I said "YES!"
From Josh's Perspective Allie got it right except for one little detail... well make that two little details... As i was down on my knee waiting for the response i was sure i was gonna get. She was giving me this strange yet funny body language. Have you ever seen the cartoon Looney Tunes? If so do you know who tweety bird is? The little bird that has short little wings that move back and forth really fast. That was Allie! She turned into my own little tweety bird imitation. Looking back on this i realize this was her only way of communication, it was the only possible way she could show the excitement of the moment. After repeating myself I was finally able to receive the "yes" I was waiting for. This was by far my favorite memory of the night, not the snow covered forest or the moonlit skies but her funny little gesture. The second little thing...As we were leaving the parking lot around ill say 10:30ish a police officer entered the parking lot, driving his dodge charger through a good eight inches of snow. He made his way over to two other vehicles parked in the lot as we left and I jokingly stated "I bet we are gonna get pulled over for what ever those two are doing". Yup sure enough pulled over! Luckily no tickets were issued and we went on our way. the end...
